Bangkok is probably no more dangerous than any other major city, I would say the biggest danger is getting run over by a tuk-tuk. Having said this I would advise you to carry around no more than 3000 baht at night because there are pickpockets and they are very skilled at their "job". Ladyboy pickpockets operate in areas such as Sukhumvit Road, they will try to jostle you and slip their fingers into your pockets---you probably wont feel a thing.

I agree with Jimmy 100% and would also suggest that you carry some form of ID with you as well. The boys in brown are known to raid bars and ago go's and can get a little shirty if you don't have any ID, the simple way to do it is to photocopy the info page on your passport and have it in your wallet.

Always lock up your cash, travellers cheques, credit cards and valuables in your hotel room safe or a safety deposit box at the reception, well out of temptations way!

It's not the info page that's important to them it's the page with the admitted until stamped on it. As well as the main page.

Yes, use common sense. Book good travel insurance, only carry enough cash for one day at a time and be respectful.
