Metro Apartments

Soi LK Metro, Pattaya

Booked off the www after reading glowing reports on other boards and reading threads where the owner (Dennis) had replied and dealt with praise, criticisms and complaints IMO honestly and fairly.

Lets be realistic the rooms are priced cheaply (but are not cheap looking or feeling) it’s a guest house so rooms above a bar not a 4-5* hotel with pool 24hr room service etc. It has all you need for a stay in fun city if you on a budget or are just after very good value for money.

The Bar;

Open from 9.30am till 1-1.30am with x2 friendly helpful shifts of girls to cater to your needs (some cater to “every” need) if you so desire. A fine selection of falling down water is available to suit every taste and the girls make a good Nescafe or cup of tea (using boiling water not that tepid crap you usually get out of those water heaters). 3 free well maintained pool tables for customers are available as is a computer terminal in the bar or free wi-fi internet throughout. Good music selection but only if you have taste (like me) not if your into Disco, Rap, House, Garage and other associated rubbish. No food available but take away can be ordered from countless cafes and restaurants around the soi or passing vendors. Dennis has also put a list of 24hr delivery services (including menus) in the rooms so your not going to go hungry. I and my “guests” were treated with respect and consideration at all times.

The Rooms;

Reached through the Bar or a side door at night so keep a hold of your keys. Mine (room 4 rear corner second floor) very large and spacious with a nice big bed, sitting area and on-suite shower room, balcony running around both sides (don’t expect a breathtaking view)with access via 2 sets of sliding patio style doors. Small in room safe and loads of storage space, all fittings and fixtures seemed in good condition. Tiled floor air con or roof fan kept the place nice and cool. My only complaint (voiced to Dennis) was that the lighting in the shower room was a bit inadequate for people who like a wet shave. Other than that they are more than adequate for the purpose (but they are not marble tilled luxury with fancy soaps, potions and lotions but remember you aren’t paying “luxury” prices). The lighting and electric through the rest of the room is good, recessed dimmers in the ceiling and loads of plug points some wired so they don’t automatically switch off when you remove your key fob from the unit by the door (handy for recharging). Towels changed every day and bed linen and the cushion covers on the sofa every 3. The room maid was a darling and did a fantastic job and seemed to be there throughout the day to sort out your room if you are a very late riser.

The Area;

On soi LK Metro a “dog leg” soi that connects soi Buakhao and Soi Dianna a comfortable 5 min walk to Second Road past a few of the bars of soi Dianna or baht buses run along soi Buakhao and moto-taxi stand at each end of the soi. Local bars and eateries a plenty, ATM’s laundry’s and 7/11 or Family Marts all nice and local.

Edited to add; At night you will probably find it easier to “hire” a baht bus (100thb) to get back with your tirak. cool.gif

The place has its pros and cons and will not be everyone’s choice of place to rest there weary head after a day sight seeing or playing on the beach. But would I stay again? Just e-mailed for my 2007 dates cool.gif

Thanks for the review, Montydog. It's always a surprise (usually a pleasant one) to read a post from a guest here. The number of lads who post but don't tell me they've done it and then trying to match their handle on the boards with a name or email is a bit like doing a crossword! Anyway, thanks for the review - which I think is fair. I have asked the maid to use stronger bulbs in the bathrooms and I will change the light soon - for blind old farts like me and you!!
As you say we are not a 4-5 star hotel nor are the rates - with one exception I think - the job the maid does daily IS 5 star. I consider her a gem. smile.gif

Will email you to confirm your booking in a few minutes. smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif

I wish I could claim this quote as mine but I can't...it was said to me by a mate who had 20+years experience of living in Los......" Just when I think I know it all something happens to prove I don't...it's like an onion...you peel one layer and there's another one behind it"...I reckon it is a very accurate analogy. grandad.gif

Looks like a nice place, I might look at staying there for a month when I finally get round to doing my big trip at the end of the year (yes I will be finally doing it, I know I've been saying that for 2 years but the wheels are finally in motion). I thought the rooms at the queen vic were good but I didn't like the noise on the soi at night, if you want a quiet night there it's basically impossible. If metro is a bit quieter area then it sounds good

Cross, I am staying there for the 3rd time come October and have recommended it to TP as well, so you can see I’m a fan. Unfortunately for us but fortunately for Dennis so are lots of other people on other boards and there all recommending the place as well. So get your booking in early, if you want a quiet superior room I would recommend #4 2nd floor at the rear. I’ve also read that he is now in the process of fitting black-out curtains in response to some peoples concerns, another example of a business owner responding to customers needs. Thailand.gif

The place probably won't be the same after I have been there but I do promise to leave the loom occasionally even if just to get food, beer and a new teerak! beer.gif

I tried booking a room from 27th Dec - 10th Jan but sadly they're all booked up, I only finalised my plans recently though so wasn't able to book any earlier. Looks like they're doing very well, good luck to them.

Now I'm going to be staying in residence garden, booked using this link which was recommended by Tim, looks a good deal considering it's high season that I'm there

Sorry to hear your going to miss out on the Metro Cross, the residence garden has a good reputation on Pattaya Talk and the deal you get through the site seems good value.

You might want to check out this new place though I know if I wasn’t staying at Dennis’s place I would be very tempted. cool.gif

That place looks nice too, I've already paid the deposit for residence garden now though so it'll do for me. The area where residence garden is looks like it's fairly quiet (for pattaya anyway) so I'm happy with that as I don't want to stay right on top of the nightlife in case I just want a quiet night

On Wednesday 20th January 2010 from 7pm, Terence Doyle is having a party to launch his book "Thailand Love Talk" at Metro Apartments Bar. Those who have met him will know he is an energetic and fun-loving guy. He says his book is intended to make it easier for Thais and visitors to communicate. At the party the launch price is 250 Baht and includes a Drinks Voucher and there's a little pig somewhere with not much time left! All are welcome - tell your friends.

Sorry, the price is 290 but the other details are correct.
