As a member of the moderating team I feel the need to inform you, that I can not log in to the board in the next few days, because I´m suffering from the heavy side effects of a dental operation, which was previously meant as a simple cut and extraction of a disturbing wisdom tooth.
The OP was two days ago, and everything went well... but after the wound got stiched up, the pain in my jaw turned out to become something terrible.
The left side of my face looks like balloon and most of the time during a day I spend in bed or on my couch, feeling physically weak from all the pain killers and antibiotics.
So, I feel unable to sit at my computer for longer as it needs to write this message.
I can´t concentrate on anything.
I will be back to you soon... hopefully on coming weekend !

Have to agree with this 'pain free' over the past couple of years have had reason to visit a dentist in Thailand and found her to be very good, and quite pretty. smile.gif

Hi lads !
Thanks for all your comments and good wishes here !
The past week can be deleted from my life, because it was really like a trip through the hell of pain.
Today, Saturday, I´m still not feeling completely recovered, but fit enough to give you some sort of “trip report”:

Monday, 29 September:
The swimming pools are closed since two weeks and so I joined the team of workers of the municipal sport department, like I always use to do in this time of a year, as long as the indoor icerink is still not opened.
In the evening I informed our foreman, that I would not come to work the next day, because of my appointment with a dentist.
“GreenThumb”, the gardener laughed about me and my optimistic view on things when I announced that I would be back at work one day later.
He definitely had got his personal experience with a wisdom tooth in the past…

Tuesday, 30 September:
Operation !
Everything fine !
The wisdom tooth that has been a little troublemaker in the past few months, got extracted from the left side of my lower jaw.
A few stitches and I was ready to go home.
But I got a note from the dentist to stay off from work, because he wanted to see me again the next morning to check the wound.
Back home and as soon as the local anaesthetization faded away, the terrible pain started.
In my pain, I was close to climb up the walls ( …like we use to say here in Germany ), and over night my left cheek was swollen.
The pain killer Dolomo-TN was no help at all…

Wednesday, 01 October:
I hadn´t had much sleep in the night and I probably looked like a piece of shit when I came into the dentist´s surgery on that morning.
The dentist himself was shocked about my appearance and mentioned that things were not supposed to go like this, after the extraction of the wisdom tooth had been perfectly unproblematic.
The swelling in my face had reached a point that made it nearly impossible to open my mouth.
Nevertheless we managed it that the dentist could check the wound.
Everything was fine with it… But the pain and the swelling looked like it was caused by an infection.
So, the good doctor gave me a prescription to get Penicillin V, Bromelain-POS against infections and swellings… and a stronger pain killer: Sympal.
As soon as I got the medicines from a pharmacy, I went home by taxi, because I felt unable to stand on my feet or to walk to the next bus station anymore.
But things got worse:
After an afternoon of total physical weakness, I woke up from the pain at 10:00 o´clock in the evening on my sofa… Sympal didn´t do it´s work anymore… so I tried to fill my mouth with cold water and put ice cubes on my cheek.
I moved nervously and fevered through my living room… like somebody who is about do burn alive.
In my need I called the only person who is living near by and who might be able to help: my mother.
I got some sort of dizziness ( …probably caused by the pain ) and collapsed down on my knees in the living room, soon after my mother had arrived.
A neighbour brought me and my mother by car to a hospital, where the emergency staff kept me connected with an infusion for two hours.
I don´t know what was in this infusion bag… But I felt much better after those two hours and decided to return home, because the hospital staff informed me that there was nothing else they could do to help me with my dental problem…

Thursday, 02 October:
I forced myself up from the bed at 6:00am, because I wanted to see the dentist again as early as possible.
Even the pain was still there and my face looked like a bad joke, I felt strong enough to switch on my computer to post my first message here in this thread.
At 9:00am, I got the feeling that Sympal was doing it´s work.
But I still looked like shit, when I took place on the chair in the dentist´s surgery.
I told the dentist my story and he decided to take a new X ray picture of my jaw.
The picture showed clearly that the wisdom tooth had been removed completely and that the jaw bone itself had no damage from the extraction procedure.
Although the wound itself showed no sign of an infection, the dentist still guessed that there might be an infection and adviced me to proceed with taking Penicillin V and Bromelain-POS…
I asked him where all this would go in case the situation would get worse again, with regards to the fact that Friday 03 October was a holiday in Germany ( Unification Day ) and that I couldn´t see him before next Monday.
Clearly worried about my situation, he gave me his private phone number and promised that he would come to my home to see me in case I get heavy problems again.
Back home I realised that the medicines were making me sleepy… but the pain killer was working perfectly.
Before I went to bed, I saw that the swelling was about to disappear.

Friday, 03 October:
The swelling was back in the morning.
I still had pain in my jaw ( …not on the wound itself ) and I was unable to eat something I had to bite in, because I couldn´t open my mouth wide enough.
Nevertheless it wasn´t so worse like before.
My mother was getting on my nerves, with her personal way of taking care of me by cooking soup for me, by watching me whilst I was lying relaxed on my sofa and by complaining the fact that I don´t do enough room cleaning in my appartment.
“Book shelfs have to be dusty !” I used to answer
My humour was coming back and my mother laughed out loud when I tried to use a straw to eat/drink my soup… At least my ability to laugh about myself wasn´t gone !

Saturday ( today ), 04 October:

There is no need for the Sympal pain killer anymore, even some pain in my jaw is still there.
For some unknown reasons I can´t get rid of this swelling in my face and I´m still unable to open my mouth wide enough to eat more than soup or mashed potatoes.
But I can get rid of the heavy pain attacks that set in from time to time ( …which are heavy enough to stiffen the nape of my neck ), just by using cold water, ice cubes… or much better, by eating ice cream !
I force myself to proceed with taking the other medicines, which should fight a possible infection.
But the stuff is making me so sleepy…

Post Scriptum:
My present status can be described as: Not fully recovered… But much better !
Coming Monday I will definitely go back to work to meet my boss in his office, to ask him for one or two more days off after all this.
The last week cost me around 100 Euro, for charges of medical registration, for my “short time” stay in hospital and for the medicines I got from a pharmacy… all this because of the insufficient German health insurance system.
One more reason to hate Krautland !
And it´s not over yet, because I have to see the dentist again on coming Tuesday, to get the stitches taken out…

I will be back on the board with the begin of the coming week… probably on Monday or Tuesday.

Hell, I wish I would be in LOS right now… with a couple of Thai nurses in my hotel room and SamSongTom as my footboy, on duty to buy medicine and rice soup for me !

Hi Mike, hope you are feeling ok again now. I had the same as you about 20 years ago and the pain was like nothing I have ever experienced before! However after 2 hours climbing the walls, the pain disappeared as suddenly as it had arrived!

Thanks Thaipan... At the moment, nothing is the same like it was before, even I forced myself back to normality today and went back to work.
The pain is still there, but not so intensive like it was last week.
It usualy starts up in my jaw bone and stiffens my neck... headache follows... only a pain killer can help.
But it´s getting better day by day.
The swelling in my face is about to disappear... by the help of Voltaren on my cheek´s skin.
I´m now looking forward to my next appointment with the dentist... tomorrow morning... to get the stitches taken out.
Hopefully that this session will not throw me back into a state of total illness again.
Anyway... I will find a way to get some more days off during this week... to recover and to learn how to open my mouth wide enough again to eat something better than soup, mashed potatoes or cereal porridge. bag.gif

Oh thank you for this very helpful advice, Baz... I feel much better now ! rofl.gif
I always thought that going to see a dentist at least two times a year will protect me from becoming such a fart with false teeth, who can´t chew anything when getting older... lol !
But during past week I thought that I can´t live long enough anymore to experience such a situation...
The stitches are gone now... they disappeared by themselves, like the doctor said... There was no need to torture me again this morning, beside forcing me to open my mouth wide... But the dentist mentioned that there has to be some work done on another tooth which lost a piece of it´s filling.
I gave him a simple answer:
"Not now ! Not today ! I need a break from all dental treatments, at least for a couple of weeks !"
The pain in my jaw still returns from time to time and goes along with headache.
Can´t stand it without a strong pain killer... and my usual afternoon-nap, soon after I took my frugal lunch.
The good thing about all this is that I lost 3 kilograms of weight in the past few days... and I´ll be off from work, for another long time weekend from Thursday to Sunday.
Will probably check out how the beer´s taste is on coming Thursday night. beer.gif
